BTech & BE Degree Apostille & Attestation
Engineering degree attestation is the chain of official stamps that makes an Indian BTech or BE degree acceptable abroad: the issuing state's education department, then the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), then the destination embassy for countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. For Apostille Convention countries, including Saudi Arabia, a BTech degree certificate apostille from MEA replaces the embassy step.

Overview of BTech & BE Degree Apostille & Attestation in India
Reliable Attestation is a private facilitation service in New Delhi. Engineering files differ from other degree files because legalisation is rarely the last check: engineering councils and societies in the Gulf and elsewhere often verify the degree again, ask about accreditation, or look at the course title and mode of study. Our BTech degree attestation work plans for those checks from the beginning. We are not a university, a state department, MEA, an embassy or an engineering body, and we have one office, in New Delhi. A BTech or BE degree is signed by the university's registrar or controller of examinations. Employers and authorities abroad cannot check that signature, so a chain of official confirmations is built on top of it. The state education department confirms the university's signature, MEA confirms the state officer's, and – for countries outside the Apostille Convention – the destination embassy confirms MEA's. In the Gulf, the foreign ministry adds the final step.

For engineers, legalisation proves that the degree is genuine. It does not prove that the programme meets a foreign country's engineering standards, that it was full-time, or that you are licensed to practise. Those questions are answered by engineering councils, societies and assessment bodies, which is why engineering files need more planning than most.

What Is Engineering Degree Attestation?
BTech Degree Certificate Apostille or Attestation?
| Destination | What your engineering degree needs | Engineering body to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | BTech degree certificate apostille from MEA | Saudi Council of Engineers registration |
| Oman, Bahrain | Apostille | Local engineering registration – confirm with employer |
| UAE | Attestation, then UAE online Embassy + MOFA | Employer or licensing authority checks – confirm |
| Qatar | Attestation, including the Qatar Embassy in India | Engineering registration – confirm with employer |
| Kuwait | Attestation, Kuwait Embassy, then ministry in Kuwait | Kuwait Society of Engineers clearance |
| Australia, Canada, UK, USA, Ireland, New Zealand | Usually skills or credential assessment, not legalisation | Engineering assessment bodies; Washington Accord may help |
| Germany | APS for students; verification on request for others | Recognition through German authorities |
Which Engineering Documents Are Usually Needed?
| Document | When it is needed | Points to check |
|---|---|---|
| BTech / BE degree certificate | Almost always | Name and branch exactly as expected |
| Provisional degree certificate | When the final degree has not arrived | Some states limit how recent it must be |
| Semester or year-wise mark sheets | Often for engineering councils and Kuwait | Some bodies ask for the mode of study to be shown |
| Consolidated mark sheet / transcript | Assessment bodies and universities | Kerala does not attest consolidated mark lists |
| Diploma (lateral entry) | If you joined the degree in the second year | Separate chain through the state technical authority |
| MTech / ME degree | For senior or academic roles | Separate chain if from a different state |
| Accreditation letter (NBA) | Where an engineering body asks | Issued by or confirmed through the institution |
| Experience certificates | Engineering registration, senior roles | Private documents with their own route |
Ask your employer and the engineering body which of these they want before you start. Each document is legalised separately.

BE Degree Attestation for Abroad Job Offers in the Gulf
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia accepts the MEA apostille, so a BE or BTech degree needs the state step and a BTech degree certificate apostille – not Saudi embassy attestation. Separately, the Saudi Council of Engineers states that all engineers practising in the Kingdom must be registered with it, and that it verifies submitted academic credentials for genuineness with the issuing institution, which can take up to three months. Its published rules also set experience conditions for non-Saudi applicants, so check the current requirements with your employer early.
UAE
After MEA attestation, one online application on the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, made with UAE PASS, covers the UAE Embassy in New Delhi and UAE MOFA. An approved provider collects the original degree, and the attested document is emailed with a reference number. The UAE does not attest laminated documents. Employers or licensing authorities may also check your qualification for the job title on your permit.
Qatar
Qatar's foreign ministry requires degrees issued outside Qatar to be attested by Qatar's mission in the issuing country – for an Indian degree, the Qatar Embassy in India, after MEA. Engineers may also need to register with Qatar's engineering authority; ask your sponsor which documents that registration needs.
Kuwait
After MEA attestation, the Kuwait Embassy legalises the degree and the final ministry step is completed in Kuwait. Kuwait is also where engineering scrutiny has been strictest. Reports since 2018 describe the Kuwait Society of Engineers re-verifying engineering degrees and requiring its clearance for engineers' residency, and from 2022 asking Indian engineers for NBA accreditation of their programme and for mark sheets that show the course was full-time. Check the current KSE requirements before you accept an offer, because legalisation alone will not satisfy them.
Engineering Degree Attestation for Oman and Bahrain
Oman and Bahrain are Apostille Convention members, so an Indian BTech or BE degree for either country needs the state step and an MEA apostille rather than embassy legalisation. Both countries also have their own arrangements for registering or licensing engineers, and employers there may ask for degree verification or professional registration as part of the work permit. Requirements change, so ask the employer which body you will register with and what it wants to see, then plan engineering degree attestation – or, here, the apostille – around that list.
What Engineering Bodies Commonly Check
Every country's engineering body has its own rules, but the same questions come up again and again:
- Is the certificate genuine? Usually checked directly with the university, in addition to the legalisation stamps.
- Is the programme accredited? Some bodies look for national accreditation, such as NBA in India, for the years you studied.
- Was it full-time and regular? Mark sheets or a university letter may be needed to show this.
- How long was the programme? A four-year bachelor's programme is the usual expectation for engineering titles.
- Does the branch match the job? The discipline on the degree should support the job title on your permit.
- How much experience do you have? Some registrations depend on years of relevant experience, shown through employer letters.
Preparing for these questions early – collecting mark sheets, accreditation details and experience letters before you need them – is often what separates a smooth move from a delayed one.
Washington Accord and NBA: Why Accreditation Matters for Engineers
The Washington Accord is an international agreement between engineering accreditation bodies. Its signatories recognise that accredited engineering programmes in other signatory countries are substantially equivalent to their own for the academic requirements of professional practice. India's National Board of Accreditation (NBA) became a permanent signatory on 13 June 2014.
The recognition is narrower than many graduates assume:
- It applies only to programmes accredited by NBA and offered by institutions NBA accepts as Tier 1.
- NBA says graduates are covered if they completed the programme after 13 June 2014 and during the programme's accreditation period.
- Graduates of other programmes are not excluded from working abroad; their degrees are simply assessed individually.
For engineers heading to Australia, Canada, the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and other signatory countries, Washington Accord status mainly affects the skills or credential assessment, not legalisation. Those bodies usually want transcripts and certificates, sometimes sent directly by the university, and rarely ask for an apostille. Keep a copy of your programme's NBA accreditation details if it has them. Your college's examination or accreditation office can usually confirm which years of your programme were covered.
Engineering Degree Attestation for Study Abroad
For an MS or MEng abroad, legalisation is often not what the university wants. Universities in the USA, Canada, the UK and Australia usually want transcripts sent by your university or evaluated by a credential service such as WES, which receives records directly from institutions. Germany requires most Indian students to obtain an APS certificate from the Academic Evaluation Centre at the German Embassy in New Delhi. Some universities in continental Europe ask for a BTech degree certificate apostille and a sworn translation. Follow each university's instructions.
Lateral Entry, Branch Titles and Other Engineering-Specific Issues
Lateral entry
If you joined the BTech in the second year after a polytechnic diploma, some employers and engineering bodies ask for the diploma as well. It is issued by a different body – usually a state technical board – and may need a separate state authority.
Branch and course titles
Universities word branches differently: "B.E. (Mechanical)", "BTech in Mechanical Engineering", "Mechanical & Automation Engineering". If your job title or visa category depends on a specific discipline, check that the wording on your degree will be accepted, and ask the university for a letter if it needs explaining.
Mode of study
Some engineering bodies want proof that the programme was full-time and regular. If your mark sheets do not show this, the university may be able to issue a letter.
Deemed and private universities
Degrees from recognised deemed and private universities follow the state of the university. Some engineering bodies abroad apply their own rules to particular categories of institution, so check before relying on a degree for a specific job.
Older degrees
Engineers often go abroad years after graduating. Older records may take longer to verify, and the university may have changed its name. Start early.
BTech Degree Attestation by Branch
The route is the same for every branch, but what employers and engineering bodies look for differs.
| Branch | Typical destinations and roles | Points that often matter |
|---|---|---|
| Civil | Construction and infrastructure in the Gulf | Engineering registration; site experience letters |
| Mechanical | Oil and gas, manufacturing, HVAC | Branch title must match the visa job title |
| Electrical / Electronics | Utilities, MEP contractors, telecom | Registration; sometimes separate licensing for electrical work |
| Computer Science / IT | Software roles worldwide | Often only the degree; engineering registration may not apply |
| Chemical / Petroleum | Refineries and petrochemicals | Mark sheets and accreditation questions are common |
Use this table as a guide only. The employer's written checklist and the engineering body's rules decide what you actually need. If you are unsure which category your role falls into, send us the offer letter and we will help you ask the employer the right questions before anything is legalised.
Software Engineers and IT Roles
Software and IT professionals often hold a BTech or BE in Computer Science, IT or Electronics. For many IT jobs abroad, the employer needs the degree for the work permit rather than for an engineering licence. In the Gulf, though, the job title on the permit can matter: if the permit says "engineer", some authorities expect a recognised engineering degree and may involve the engineering body. Ask your employer which job title will appear on your permit before BTech degree attestation begins, and make sure the branch on your degree supports it.
University Verification Letters
In some states, the education department authenticates only after the university confirms the degree in writing. Engineering universities often have a dedicated verification desk or an online portal, and many already receive requests from engineering bodies abroad. A request usually needs your roll number, year of passing and a copy of the degree. If your university is slow to respond, this stage – not MEA or the embassy – usually decides the overall timeline, so we start it first.
BTech Degree Attestation in Delhi
Our office is in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi, and much of our BTech degree attestation work starts here, whichever state the degree comes from. Delhi helps after the state step: MEA's New Delhi collection centres and most embassies are in the city. Degrees from universities in Delhi follow the Delhi route, which we confirm per file; degrees from other states go through their own state first.
MTech, ME and PhD Holders
Senior engineers, consultants and academics are often asked for every qualification: the BTech or BE, the MTech or ME, and sometimes a PhD. Each certificate needs its own chain, and postgraduate degrees are frequently from a different state than the first degree. Universities abroad hiring faculty may also want transcripts and research records sent directly. Plan engineering degree attestation for the full set at once, so that every document reaches MEA together.
Experience Certificates for Engineers
Engineering registration and senior job offers often depend on years of experience as much as on the degree. Experience certificates are private documents issued by employers, not public documents, so they follow a different route – typically notarisation and the state authority's step before MEA, with details confirmed per state. Many employers accept them without legalisation; some engineering bodies insist on it. Each letter should be on the employer's letterhead, signed, stamped and dated, with your name exactly as in your passport, and should state your role, dates and duties clearly.
Oil, Gas and Large Contractors
Large employers in oil and gas, petrochemicals and major construction projects often have their own document-control teams and detailed checklists. They may ask for the full set of mark sheets, a provisional and a final certificate, experience letters from every previous employer, and copies of any professional registrations in India. Their checklists can also be strict about the order of stamps and about clear scans of each page. Send us the checklist exactly as it was given to you, and we will map each item to the route it needs.
Choosing Which Documents to Legalise
Legalise only what is asked for. A typical Gulf engineering file needs the degree and sometimes mark sheets; an engineering body may want more; a skills assessment abroad may want nothing legalised at all. Each extra certificate is another chain and another set of stamps on an original you may need again. Send us the employer's and the engineering body's written lists, and we will tell you which documents need BTech degree attestation or an apostille and which can be sent as they are.
Families Moving With an Engineer
When an engineer relocates with family, the file usually grows to include a marriage certificate for the spouse's visa and birth certificates for the children. These are personal documents with their own state route. Planning them together with the degree means everything reaches the embassy at the same time.
Our Role and the Officials' Role
The university decides whether to confirm your degree. The state authority decides whether to authenticate it. MEA decides whether to issue its apostille or attestation, the embassy decides whether to legalise, and the engineering body decides whether to register you. Our role is preparation and coordination: identifying the right offices, preparing the file, submitting it through the authorised channels and returning your originals safely. We cannot influence any official decision, and we will never claim otherwise.
How Long Does Engineering Degree Attestation Take?
| Stage | What decides the time | Indicative pattern |
|---|---|---|
| Route check and review | How quickly you share scans | Usually the quickest stage |
| University verification | The university's verification desk | Can be the longest stage |
| State education department | State workload | Varies widely by state |
| MEA | Collection channel and processing | Generally predictable |
| Embassy / foreign ministry | Country and season | Varies by country |
| Engineering body (after legalisation) | The body's own checks | The Saudi Council of Engineers mentions up to three months for verification |
Indicative only – we do not promise fixed days. We share an estimated timeline after reviewing your documents.
What Is the Total Made Of?
We do not publish charges, because the total depends on the file. It includes any university verification, the state step, MEA, the embassy and foreign-ministry stages or the apostille, translation if needed, and courier or pickup and return. Engineering-body fees abroad are separate and paid to those bodies. Our team shares the exact total after reviewing your documents.
Three Typical Situations
These are illustrative examples based on common requests; names are changed and details simplified.
A site engineer moving to Riyadh
Arjun has a BTech in Civil Engineering from a university in Tamil Nadu and an offer from a Saudi contractor. His degree needs the state step and an MEA apostille – the employer's old checklist mentioning Saudi embassy attestation is out of date. We also remind him that the Saudi Council of Engineers will verify his degree with the university, so he asks his university to expect the request.
A mechanical engineer with a Kuwait offer
Divya's BE in Mechanical Engineering is from a university in Karnataka. Her Kuwait employer warns that the Kuwait Society of Engineers will ask about accreditation. Before legalising anything, she confirms with her college whether the programme was NBA-accredited for her years of study and asks for semester mark sheets showing full-time study. Then her degree goes through the state, MEA and the Kuwait Embassy.
An engineer migrating to Australia
Rahul is applying for skilled migration to Australia. His skills assessment body wants transcripts and his degree, not an apostille. His programme was NBA-accredited at a Tier 1 institution during his study years, which is relevant under the Washington Accord. We advise him not to legalise anything until the assessment body asks for it.
Name Differences and Corrections
The name on your degree should match your passport. A missing surname, initials instead of a full name, or a name changed after marriage can cause queries at the state, MEA, the embassy or the engineering body. If the degree itself is wrong, only the university can correct it. If your name changed later, carry proof of the change. Tell us about any difference at the start.
If a Document Is Refused
Refusals usually have a clear cause: the wrong state, a university or programme the state cannot verify, a name mismatch, a laminated original, or a missing verification letter. Some problems take days to fix; others need the university to correct or reissue a document. We explain which kind you have, and whether a different route would be faster, before anything is resubmitted.
Planning Around Joining Dates
Engineering offers in the Gulf often come with short joining windows, and the engineering body's own verification can take weeks after legalisation. As soon as an offer arrives, ask for the exact document list and send us scans the same week. Start any university verification immediately. Leave time for embassy holidays and the shorter working hours of Gulf missions during Ramadan. If your date is fixed, tell us at the start and we will say honestly whether it is realistic.
Common Mistakes With Engineering Degree Attestation
- Getting Saudi embassy attestation. Saudi Arabia accepts the apostille.
- Apostilling for the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait. They need attestation.
- Assuming legalisation satisfies the engineering body. Councils and societies run their own checks.
- Forgetting the lateral-entry diploma. Some employers want it too.
- Ignoring the branch title. A mismatch with the job title can cause problems later.
- Going to the state where you live or studied. The awarding university's state decides.
- Using SDM or a notary. Neither is part of the degree route.
- Laminating the degree. The UAE does not attest laminated documents.
- Assuming every BTech is covered by the Washington Accord. Only NBA-accredited Tier 1 programmes, within the dates NBA sets.
Special Cases
Degrees from two states
A diploma from one state and a BTech from another each go to their own state authority; the two steps can run in parallel.
Provisional certificates
A provisional certificate can often be legalised, but engineering bodies may later want the final degree, which needs its own chain.
Names that differ
A name change or spelling difference needs supporting documents.
Degrees needed for two countries
A degree can carry both an apostille (for Saudi Arabia) and an attestation (for the UAE), applied for separately.
Kerala-issued degrees
Authenticated through Norka Roots' centres in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode, after online registration.
Degrees from institutes that have closed
If your college has closed or merged, the affiliating university usually holds the records. Verification can take longer, so start well before your joining date.
Integrated and dual-degree programmes
Integrated BTech–MTech or dual-degree certificates are sometimes worded differently from a standard degree. Check how the employer and engineering body will read the certificate, and ask the university for an explanatory letter if needed.
What Engineering Degree Attestation Does Not Do
- It does not prove that your programme meets a foreign engineering standard.
- It does not register or license you as an engineer abroad.
- It does not replace an engineering body's own verification.
- It does not correct the degree – only the university can.
- It does not guarantee a visa or job.
Questions to Ask Your Employer
- Which documents do you need – degree, mark sheets, diploma, MTech, experience letters?
- Attestation or apostille – and is your checklist current for Saudi Arabia?
- Which engineering body will I register with, and what does it need?
- Does my job title require a specific branch name on the degree?
- Is there a joining date we should plan around?
Translation and Equivalency
Indian engineering degrees are issued in English, and most destinations accept them as they are. Some authorities ask for an Arabic or other translation, normally after legalisation. Equivalency or recognition – whether your degree is treated as equal to a local engineering degree – is decided by the engineering body or education authority abroad. Engineering degree attestation is usually a prerequisite for that decision, but it is not the decision itself.
Verifying an Attested Degree
Employers and engineering bodies sometimes check the stamps themselves. For the UAE, the digitally attested document carries a reference number that can be checked on the UAE ministry's verification portal. Engineering bodies such as the Saudi Council of Engineers verify the degree with the university directly. Keep clear scans of every page after each stage.
Working With Us From Abroad
If you are already working abroad and need your degree legalised for a new job, a family member can hand the original to us, or you can courier it. We need a passport copy and a short authorisation. For the UAE, we coordinate the online step with you once MEA attestation is complete.
How We Keep You Updated
You receive a short message when your documents reach us, when each official stage is complete and when they are on the way back. If something is delayed – a university that has not replied, a public holiday, a query – we tell you the same day and explain what it means for your plans.
Safe Handling of Your Originals
We record each original when it reaches us, keep it in our office between stages, and return it by tracked courier or in person. We ask only for the originals your destination needs.
When Your Degree Comes Back: What to Check
- The state education department's stamp, or Norka Roots' authentication.
- MEA's apostille or attestation.
- The embassy's legalisation and, for the UAE, the emailed attestation and reference number.
- That your name and branch title are correct throughout.
Documents and Details to Keep Ready
- Original BTech or BE degree, unlaminated.
- Semester mark sheets.
- Diploma, if you joined by lateral entry.
- A copy of your passport.
- NBA accreditation details for your programme, if the engineering body asks.
- Experience certificates, if required.
- The destination, employer and job title.

Frequently Asked Questions on BTech & BE Degree Apostille & Attestation
What is engineering degree attestation?
The chain of state, MEA and embassy stamps that makes an Indian BTech or BE degree acceptable in a non-Convention country.
What is the BTech degree certificate attestation process?
Route check, university verification if needed, state education department, MEA, then the embassy and foreign ministry.
Do I need a BTech degree certificate apostille for Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Saudi Arabia accepts the MEA apostille; no embassy step is needed.
Is BTech degree attestation needed for the UAE?
Yes. After MEA, the UAE online process covers the Embassy and MOFA.
Does the Saudi Council of Engineers verify my degree?
Yes. It says it verifies academic credentials with the issuing institution, which can take up to three months.
Does Kuwait require NBA accreditation?
Reports say the Kuwait Society of Engineers has asked Indian engineers for NBA accreditation. Check its current rules before accepting an offer.
What is the Washington Accord?
An agreement between engineering accreditation bodies. India's NBA joined permanently on 13 June 2014, for NBA-accredited Tier 1 programmes.
Do I need an apostille for Australia or Canada?
Usually not. Skills and credential assessment bodies normally want transcripts instead.
Is BE degree attestation for abroad job offers different from BTech?
No. BE and BTech follow the same route.
Do I need my diploma attested if I joined by lateral entry?
Only if the employer or engineering body asks.
Which state attests my BTech?
The state where the awarding university is located.
Can MEA apostille a photocopy?
No. The original is needed.
Is SDM or a notary needed?
No. Neither is part of the degree route.
Does attestation register me as an engineer?
No. Registration is a separate step with the engineering body.
How long does engineering degree attestation take?
It depends on the state and the destination. We share an estimated timeline after reviewing your documents.
What do your engineering degree attestation services cost?

Engineering Degree Attestation and Apostille for BTech and BE Graduates
Reliable Attestation helps engineers prepare their BTech and BE degrees for jobs and further study abroad. Engineering degree attestation is the chain of official stamps that makes an Indian engineering degree acceptable in countries outside the Apostille Convention, such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait: the education department of the state where the awarding university is located, then the Ministry of External Affairs, then the destination embassy and, in the Gulf, its foreign ministry. For Convention countries such as Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain, a BTech degree certificate apostille from MEA replaces the embassy step.
The BTech degree certificate attestation process is straightforward in outline – route check, university verification where needed, the state step, MEA, then the embassy – but engineering files rarely end there. The Saudi Council of Engineers states that engineers practising in the Kingdom must register with it and that it verifies academic credentials directly with the issuing institution. Reports from Kuwait describe the Kuwait Society of Engineers asking Indian engineers for NBA accreditation of their programme and mark sheets showing full-time study. Qatar requires degrees issued outside Qatar to be attested by its mission in the issuing country.
BE degree attestation for abroad job offers works exactly as BTech degree attestation does; the two titles follow the same route. What matters more is the detail: the branch title on the degree should support the job title on your permit, a lateral-entry diploma may be needed alongside the degree, and mark sheets may be asked for by the engineering body even if the employer does not need them. We check these points before any original moves.
For Australia, Canada, the UK, Ireland and other Washington Accord countries, legalisation is usually not the main requirement. Skills and credential assessment bodies want transcripts and certificates, and the Washington Accord – which India's National Board of Accreditation joined as a permanent signatory on 13 June 2014 – applies to NBA-accredited programmes of Tier 1 institutions during their accreditation period. Germany requires most Indian students to obtain an APS certificate, and an Indian apostille has no effect there.
We are a private facilitation service, not a university, state department, MEA, embassy or engineering body, and we work from one office in New Delhi, serving clients across India by pickup or courier. SDM and notary are not part of the degree route, MEA does not legalise photocopies, and the UAE does not attest laminated documents. We do not promise fixed days, because universities, state offices, MEA, embassies and engineering bodies set their own pace; we share an honest estimate after reviewing your documents. The total depends on the documents, the state and the destination, and our team shares the exact total after reviewing your documents.
